Meditation In My Life

Crohn’s Colitis: Meditation In My Life

Meditation In My Life

I receive a lot of questions about meditation; about how to, why, and how I used it to heal myself.  Meditation is a tool, an umbrella of sorts.  It provides cover for you like an umbrella would in the rain.  With teaching yourself meditation you can go to classes but it ultimately comes down to you and practice and truly being there in your practice.

Meditation is the art of focus.  It is training your mind to be focused.  Some people call this the present moment.  However, you can go one step further by using that same focus to change your thoughts.  Now this is me but I also believe you can use it to control your body.

Meditation is something which once you start you may never want to stop and maybe you shouldn’t.  If you just want to use meditation to cure your Crohn’s, it might do that in a short time but, you will not create lasting change.  Once you stop you might start falling back into the old habits that caused your sickness in the first place.

Meditation protected me from stress. It also gave me focus.  It taught me how to make space in my life to create change.  It allowed me to think clearly about what was going on in my life and the lives around me.  It gave me a subject to study and learn about.  It cleared the path for the life that I am living now.  I still meditate pretty much every day, and I have meditated over the last 20 something years.

Meditation has a cumulative effect.  I have practiced many different types of meditation. I believe the true path of meditation is exploring different types.  Reading and studying different masters also helps in the quest for one’s personal meditation.  Finding your own technique is the key. I believe, and trust me, you will not find your own technique in a week.  It’s something you are going to craft out of your practice and the time you spend doing the work.  Meditation is a one-person sport. Yes there are many teachers and many styles, but it is your work that gets you there.

With practice, meditation is the tool that frees your mind, heals your body and opens the path to a new, healthy life.  I know this is all new to some of you and the information out there can be overwhelming.  However, what do you have to lose by giving it a try?  Ask questions. Talk to someone or read a book. Understand that you are a beginner and you are on a new adventure.
